Create Common Good [Sidebar]

Recently I visited Boise, Idaho for the first time.  The reason for the trip was to see friends who are doing amazing things with refugees there.  Every year 70,000 refugees resettle to the US and often have difficulty adjusting to life here with no language or employable skills.  Tara Russell started Create Common Good to give them language and job skills and also to create employment opportunities for them. They work with refugees from all over the world (about 30 different countries).

Create Common Good also inspired Executive Chef Brent Southcombe, Australia’s “Chef of the Nation”, to join, and so they now offer culinary and food service training.  They also offer intimate catered events called Stir.

In addition to Tara and Brent, there are also many dedicated team members.  I admire what the CCG team is doing and I believe there are many people around us who use their talents and passion to change the world one life at a time.  It is a privilege to know them and call them a friend.

I had the pleasure of chatting with 17-year old Emmanuel from Congo who loves to play soccer.  He has lived in the refugee camp for the majority of his life and is excited about his future here.
