This week Clement and I attended the Urban Land Institute's (ULI) Spring conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. It's been over 14 years since I've been in Charlotte and it's amazing to see the transformation. The skyline has grown considerably, become more vibrant, added significant infrastructures like the light rail, and created wonderful public spaces. I think the city is an example of successful public and private partnerships. More recently they also embarked on the Envision Charlotte initiative, which aims to make Charlotte one of the most sustainable urban cores in the nation. One of its goals is to reduce total energy use in the central business district "Uptown Charlotte" by 20% within 5 years. I applaud their broad based collaboration and hope they are able to exceed their goals.
